Chris White - Artist, Poet, Performer, Author, Lover, Liar...
Potty Poet and crazy cartoon illustrator Chris White first grabbed the attention of the poetry world in 2000 following publication of Bitey the Veggie Vampire. Chris' first book would eventually hit the number one spot on Amazon - we believe this to be a first for a poetry book about a Veggie Vampire, but records are inconclusive.
An instant hit, Chris was swept away on the tidal wave of public interest to begin his career as a performance poet. His fusion of humour, illustration and the written word has since taken schools, libraries, hospitals, prisons, Women's Institutes, shopping centres and festivals by storm.
Media coverage soon followed. This included performance footage being broadcast on Central TV and interviews with local newspapers and radio stations. Chris' work has also featured on Radio 7 and CBBC.
Chris is also in demand on the festival circuit. He has headlined at the very popular Young Readers UK festival in Birmingham, The Off the Shelf Festival in Sheffield, The Ledbury Poetry Festival and The Lincoln Book Festival in...er...Lincoln. Chris has also performed at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2008 and headed back there in 2009 as part of The Line Kings (with Ian Billings) and also to perform his one man show All White Now!
Recently Chris flew away from these shores to do a tour of Northern Ireland and some dates in Germany. Despite it going really well - they sent him back...
Chris has provided animations and poems for the BBC's Digital Curriculum and given performances and workshops for the Government's Healthy Schools Initiative.
Since the publication of his first poetry book, three more have sprung into life. Wang Foo the Kung Fu Shrew appeared in 2001, The Armadillo Under my Pillow (2002) and Shark in the Toilet! (2004) soon followed.
After a gap of a few years (well, he was a bit busy travelling around performing) Chris' fifth book appeared in 2009 thanks to the fine people at CABOODLE BOOKS. Don't Put Dave in the Microwave! was unleashed to a waiting audience who were wondering what the heck took him so long!! (sorry!)
Chris (or Christoph-Lamby Pie to his friends) has also finished work on a few illustrated short stories. Two of these, The Beast from the East and Stumpy's Big Adventure were published in December 2009 - in the same book . A proud moment for Chris as he felt like a proper writer at last!!
Chris has been on the judging panel for Off By Heart the BBC's poetry performing contest that was shown on BBC2.
PHEW! Plenty more things are in the pipeline folks - but that should bring you pretty much up to speed for now!
